Jefferson Belarmino de Freitas is a visiting professor in Penn State University’s Humanities Institute. Dr. Belarmino de Freitas, a native of São Paulo, Brazil, obtained his Ph.D. in Sociology from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) in 2018. He served as a Werner Baer Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Illinois from 2022 to 2023. Dr. Belarmino de Freitas is affiliated with the Group for Interdisciplinary Studies of Affirmative Action (GEMAA), an academic research group associated with UERJ. GEMAA-UERJ specializes in interdisciplinary studies on affirmative action in the Brazilian context. In his research, Dr. Belarmino de Freitas explores race relations theory, racism, affirmative action, and issues related to race, ethnicity, and immigration.
