Timothy M. Griffiths

Humanities in the World Postdoctoral Scholar

Timothy M. Griffiths is a postdoctoral fellow with the Humanities Institute at Penn State University. His articles and reviews have appeared or are forthcoming in African American Review, American Literature, Callaloo, GLQ, Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, Legacy, and The Journal of Popular Music Studies. His current project, Eclectic Proprieties: The Queer Practice of Black Uplift in Early Jim Crow America, is a study of Nadir-era Black novels that rethinks the genealogy of US queer thought through the formal emergence of African American literature. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in English and African American Literature at the University of Virginia and a graduate teaching fellow at Brooklyn College. He is a former Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellow and NYPL Schomburg Center Scholar in Residence.
